SALARY: PROPOSED: £45,000 – £50,000 Plus London Weighting depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. This salary range is determined after internal benchmarking and by reference to the market.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

A BBC Studios Audio Audio Technical Producer (Sound Designer) will be part of the award-winning team which will create unique, high-quality sounds for BBC’s podcasts and audio productions. You’ll will develop the sonic identity of content from concept to delivery, collaborating closely with editorial teams to enhance storytelling for UK and international viewing.

We are producing a range of podcasts and visualised content for the BBC (iPlayer, Sounds, BBC YouTube, Radio 4 and Radio 5) and we are growing a portfolio of programmes for commercial audio platforms. We also make and monetise our own direct to market content. We’ve performed at the Big Pitch with Jimmy Carr (Netflix), Dancing with the Stars: The Official Podcast (Disney/Hulu), Zeroes (Audible), In Our Time, Evil Genius, Evil Animals, You’re Dead to Me, Good Bad Billionaire and The News Quiz, as well as making iconic radio shows such as Desert Island Discs, The News Quiz, Just a Minute and Dead Ringers (Radio 4).

Join BBC Sound’s Audio team as a creative and collaborative ear to produce exciting podcasts and audio content for BBC Sounds and audiences around the world including Audible, iHeart, CBC and ABC.

You will compete with a diverse cast and create a wide range of sounds, music and stories and help develop new story formats.

This is an opportunity to learn, to be creative, and to be included in a supportive setting.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Develop original sound design, music & audio elements that support the storytelling and audience engagement.
Create music, show themes, stings and cues for a range of factual, comedy and fiction podcasts.
Record, edit, mix and master audio to a high level of professional production into a number of productions.
Work with producers and editors to understand the brief and to influence the tone of the project.
Organize studio sessions, recordings on location and post production.
Make sure that audio meets technical, editorial and accessibility criteria for delivery.
Troubleshoot technical problems and come up with solutions in a timely fashion.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Proven sound design, technical production or audio engineering experience in podcast, radio or audio programming for commercial and PS programming. This should cover paid work with Broadcasting Corporation of Canada, BBC, ABC, Audible, Wondery, Global, iHeart or the leading independent production companies, among others.
Experience creating audio content that meets broadcast specifications.
Excellent knowledge of sound design and sound editing skills in DAWs like Pro Tools, Reaper, Adobe Audition.
Good critical listening and comprehension of sound story.
Understanding how to record, mix, master and understand audio standards.
Good collaborative skills and ability to work on several projects.

Sound Designer

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Have an opportunity to compose new music or music for audio.
Understanding of immersive or spatial audio, such as Dolby Atmos.
Audio, Music Technology or related qualification.
